Hick, Vivien. ‘John Wesley and the Irish Rhinelanders’, Eighteenth-century Ireland/Iris an dá chultúr, Vol. 5 (1990), pp 89-103.

This article discusses the connections between John Wesley and the Palatine communities in Ireland, which he visited regularly over a period of twenty-nine years. His Methodism appealed to the Palatines, many of whom had been influenced by the Pietist teachings common in the Germany from which they had come. Hick quotes from Wesley’s accounts of his travels to Ireland, and discusses the Moravian influence in his teachings. She also considers the decline of Methodism in Ireland and Methodist emigration to America. Also mentioned are Methodists Philip Embury, David Embury, Colonel John Blennerhassett, Rev. Adam Averell, Peter Cooke, Thomas Waugh, Messrs. Harpur and Noble, and William Feckman.
