Casey, Christine. ‘Architectural Books in Eighteenth-Century Ireland’, Eighteenth-century Ireland/Iris an dá chultúr, Vol. 3 (1988), pp 105-113.

In eighteenth-century Ireland, as in the UK and America, published material greatly influenced architectural style and the distribution of Renaissance ideas. This article surveys popular eighteenth-century architectural literature, and the number of library holdings and recorded copies in Ireland at the time. Also discussed are the architectural interests and printed collections of three Irishmen: Lord Charlemont, William Burton-Conyngham, and Wogan Brown. Casey compares the types of books collected in Ireland with those collected in the American colonies, finding that the Irish collections reflected “catholic European tastes”, while the collections in the American colonies reflected a “more practical and essentially English tradition.
